Questions
What is an aspect ratio?
The proportional relationship between a width and a height, written as two numbers separated by a colon. 16:9 means the width is 16 units for every 9 units of height — it says nothing about absolute size, only shape.
How do I calculate an aspect ratio from pixel dimensions?
Divide both numbers by their greatest common divisor. 1920 and 1080 share a GCD of 120, giving 16:9. The calculator does it for you and also solves for a missing width or height.
What is the most common aspect ratio?
16:9 — it is the basis of 720p, 1080p, 1440p and 4K, and it dominates monitors, televisions and YouTube. For vertical video, 9:16 has become just as standard.
How do I set an aspect ratio in CSS?
aspect-ratio: 16 / 9;. The element keeps that shape at any width, which replaces the old padding-top percentage hack entirely.
